Membership
There are two levels of membership in the Family Business Center. They are:
Founding Families
“Founding Family” Businesses are defined as those businesses who have committed their time and significant financial resources to the Family Business Center’s initial and continuing success. They, in addition, become mentors to subsequent family business members by example and hands on mentorship.
These families should have:
- Passion for Family Business
- Desire to mentor
- Ability and desire to devote time to development of the program and its sustainability
- Community benefit at heart
- Visibility, significant presence and recognition in the community
- Have the financial resources and willingness to “give” to worthy non-profit endeavors
Founding Family Businesses Achieve a Sphere of Influence As Follows:
- Seat on the Family Business Center’s advisory council
- Be a major contributor to the development, growth and sustainability of the Family Business Center and its programs
- Relationship building opportunities with sponsors and other founding family sponsors
- Recognition as contributor to community
- Be a part of economic growth and vitality of the region
- Contribute to the sophistication of the region’s business environment
- Opportunity to mentor one or more smaller family businesses
- Speaking and workshop leadership as appropriate at Family Business Center events
- Recognition in all print and electronic communication of the Family Business Center
Founding Family Business Member Benefits/Services/Programs:
- Access to all research and data generated by the Family Business Center
- 4-6 programs a year conducted by recognized experts dealing with a variety of issues affecting families and family businesses - issues such as:
- Management and ownership transition planning and execution
- Estate planning
- Compensation of family members versus non-family members
- Assessing abilities of family members and training/coaching them in management roles
- Resolving conflict within the family and its business
- Structures for resolving family and business conflicts
- Selecting, recruiting and utilizing outside board members
- And more
- Up to 10 seats per family or non-family member at each event
- Networking with other families
- Special workshops with round table discussions
- Interaction with family business peers and a chance to share experiences
- Access to nationally recognized experts and family business materials
- One to one sessions with Director to surface family business needs and interests relative to program development
- Involvement in established “affinity” programs (e.g., next generation, women in the family business, etc)
- Networking opportunities among family business members and other leaders and resources in family business
- Feeling of contribution and giving
Family Business Members

- 4-6 programs a year conducted by recognized experts dealing with a variety of issues affecting families and family businesses - issues such as:

- Compensation of family members versus non-family members
- Assessing abilities of family members and training/coaching them in management roles

- Selecting, recruiting and utilizing outside board members
- And more
- Up to 5 seats per family or non-family member at each event
- Networking with other families
- Special workshops with round table discussions
- Interaction with family business peers and a chance to share experiences
- Access to nationally recognized experts and family business materials
- Involvement in established “affinity” programs (e.g., next generation, women in the family business, etc)
- Networking opportunities among family business members and other leaders and resources in family business
- Access to family business information/databases developed specifically for the Sacramento Region.
